The diagram shows the offensive line down blocking to one side with a puller wrapping to kick out or lead through the point of attack while the HB takes the handoff and presses the hole before making one cut off his blocker. This is a run play, not a man or zone beater, and the primary read progression starts with the pulling lineman: key his path, press the mesh point behind him, then cut off the block based on how the defense flows.

Defensive Reads

Look for a light box pre-snap with safeties rotated away from the run, that tells you the puller has a clean path to the second level. Watch the Mike and Will linebacker alignment, if they are shaded toward the play side gap the pulling blocker may not get a clean kick out and the play should be checked. Post-snap, key the pulling lineman's block, if a defender scrapes over the top and beats the puller to the hole the HB needs to cut back immediately. This play struggles against gap-sound defenses that stay disciplined and fill with linebackers reading their run keys, and it can get blown up by an overload blitz to the play side since the protection is not built to handle extra rushers. Against a user-controlled defender flying downhill, trust the natural cutback lane since Power O schemes are designed to counter over-aggressive pursuit.

Usage Tips

Run this out of 11 personnel when the defense shows a light box with 6 or fewer defenders, since the puller can seal an extra body at the point of attack. Check the Mike linebacker depth pre-snap, if he is stacked tight to the line this play can get stonewalled so consider audibling to Inside Zone or Duo instead. Use HB Power O early in a drive to establish tendencies, then come back later with Fk Cheat Outside Zone or Cheat Outside Zone off similar pre-snap looks to keep the defense honest on flow direction. Against aggressive defensive tackles who shoot gaps, let the puller adjust naturally and trust the one cut rather than trying to bounce it outside prematurely. Pair this play in a sequence with PA Fk Cheat Post Cross or PA Behind Fk Cheat Quick Out since both threaten off similar backfield action and force linebackers to respect play action after seeing this run hit downhill.
