Breakdown

PA Cheat Comeback Go is a play-action shot play out of Shotgun Tight Y Off Wk that uses a run fake to hold the linebackers before working a two-man route combo to the boundary. The outside receiver runs a comeback that settles hard back to the sideline, while the inside receiver clears vertically up the seam on a go route to stack the corner and take the top off the coverage. On the far side, a receiver runs a deep crossing route from the opposite boundary, giving the quarterback a third option if the play side is blanketed. This is primarily a man beater because the comeback creates instant separation on trailing corners and the go route abuses aggressive man coverage over the top, though it also stresses single-high shells since the crosser can find grass against zone leverage. Primary read progression starts with the comeback for the quick, low risk completion, then climbs to the go route for the explosive shot if the corner bites on the run fake or sits in off coverage.

Defensive Reads

Watch the play side cornerback at the snap, if he bails into a deep drop off the fake he is conceding the comeback for an easy completion. Identify single-high versus two-high safety shells before the snap, single-high leaves the go route in a straight man matchup while two-high forces the quarterback to trust the comeback. Track linebacker depth after the run fake, shallow linebackers who bite hard open up throwing lanes for both the comeback and the underneath crosser. User the deep half safety to lurk over the top of the go route, this is the counter that takes away the biggest chunk play in the concept. Look for corner blitzes or nano pressure packages, this play needs time to sell the fake and complete the progression so an unblocked edge rusher forces a rushed or inaccurate throw.

Usage Tips

Use this on early downs or second and short when the run fake actually has teeth and defenders are still respecting the ground game tendencies you have built.

Check pre-snap for single-high safety looks or a corner playing tight man with no help over the top, that alignment is exactly when the go route can hit for a house call.

Hot route the deep crosser into a shallow drag if you see zone drops sitting on the sideline routes, this gives you a checkdown against soft coverage without abandoning the play design.

Sell the play-action fake fully before your first read, defenders keying on the mesh point will jump the comeback route if you rush the animation.

Pair this with PA Fk Cheat Quick Out or Fk Cheat HB Stretch earlier in a series so the run fake carries real weight when you finally pull this shot play out of the same personnel and set.
