Shuffle HB Choice

Key the flat defender or nickel corner immediately after the snap since their depth tells you whether the HB should sit or push outside on the choice route. Watch for a linebacker spy or lurk defender sitting in the shuffle passing lane, as this can jump the HB route if the QB stares it down too long. Identify Cover 2 or Cover 4 shells pre-snap since squatting corners can undercut the choice route if the HB breaks outside too early. Man coverage with an inside linebacker matched on the HB is a green light because shuffle action creates natural separation on the choice break. Watch for blitz packages that send extra rushers off the edge, since the shuffle fake can hold defenders just long enough to open a hot throw underneath.
