Normal Y Off takes the base Shotgun Normal look and lifts the tight end off the line into a wing/flex position just outside the tackle, which is the entire identity of this set. That one adjustment does three things: it gives you a legal motion man for jet, orbit, and shuffle actions without burning a receiver split, it creates a clean release for the TE against press or hook/curl defenders, and it puts a third blocker in the box for gap runs like Counter Y and Read Counter Bash. The 11 personnel grouping keeps two receivers split wide and one in the slot, so you are still running spread route concepts, but the off ball TE forces the defense to declare whether he is being covered by a linebacker, a safety, or nobody at all.
The play list here is one of the deepest in the game. You have a full zone run tree (Inside Zone, Mid Zone, Same Side Zone, Mtn Split Zone), gap scheme with a pulling TE (Counter Y, HB Counter, Read Counter Bash), option football (Read Option, Midline Read Option, Mtn Y Lead Read Option), and a legitimate RPO package (RPO Peek Slant, RPO Zone Peek, RPO Read FL Screen, Orbit RPO Alert Swing, Exit RPO Alert Screen). The Gadget tag is earned through Jet Touch Pass, PA Jet Sweep, Zone Fake Jet, Fake Jet Pass Power, and Fake Jet HB Seam, all of which use the same motion shells so the defense cannot key the movement alone.
The matchup value comes from isolating the TE. Motion him across the formation and watch the defender who travels: a linebacker chasing means you get Seam F Angle or Fake Jet HB Seam one on one up the seam, and a safety rotating tells you the coverage shell before the snap. The SLWR tag matters because the slot receiver is your primary man beater on Double Slants, Slants, and Exit Switch Out, so a strong route running slot with good release ratings turns this set into a chain mover against any single high look.
Open every series by motioning the TE and reading the reaction: a defender traveling across means man, so go to Double Slants or Slant Flat, and a static secondary means zone, so hit Curl Flats or Mtn Curls.
On second and medium, run Same Side Zone or Mid Zone from the same look you show RPO Zone Peek from, forcing the defense to defend both the run fit and the peek throw with the same personnel.
Against single high, hot route the slot on a fade or use Four Verticals and Corner Strike to isolate the outside receiver, and put the back on a swing as your blitz answer.
Use the play action shells (PA Zone Cross, PA Same Side Boot, Mtn PA Read, PA QB Choice) only after you have established the zone run game, since the rollout and boot concepts need the linebackers flowing to sell the read.
In the red zone, go to Redzone Scissors, Spot Wheel, and Mtn Spot Wheel to create high low reads that beat compressed zone coverage, and keep Counter Y as your goal line answer against light boxes.
