Jet Touch Pass is a quick-hitting jet motion play out of Shotgun Normal Y Off with 11 personnel. The motion man sprints across the formation and catches a touch pass just behind the line while the receiver aligned near the line breaks inside on a quick crossing route that clears out underneath space. This is a run-pass option style touch throw designed to get the ball out instantly and use blockers in space, functioning as a zone beater against overplayed edge defenders and a way to punish aggressive linebacker flow. The primary read is the jet motion touch pass first, with the shallow crosser as a secondary answer if defenders crash the flat too fast.
Pre-snap, identify whether the defense shifts a linebacker or safety to match the jet motion, since a clean shift signals they are prepared for the perimeter touch pass. Watch corner alignment on the motion side. A hard outside shade or press alignment means the defense is baiting the touch pass for a big hit or turnover. Post-snap, key the flow of the play side linebacker. If he stays home and shuffles with the motion instead of crashing downhill, this play gets shut down quickly. User-controlled defenders sitting in shallow zones or spying the flat are the biggest threat, since they can jump the touch pass route before blockers get set. Against zone shells, look for the underneath defender's leverage. If he is caught flat footed reading run action, the touch pass hits for a chunk gain before he can recover.
Snap the ball as soon as the jet motion man is at full speed to maximize the numbers advantage on the perimeter.
Use this against defenses that show heavy inside blitz looks or linebackers that bite hard on run action, since the touch pass gets outside before flow arrives.
Pair this with Zone Fake Jet and PA Jet Sweep from the same set so defenses cannot key on jet motion as only a pass indicator.
On third and short or second and short, this is a high floor call because the touch pass essentially functions as an extended run with blockers already in space.
If the defense shows man coverage with the corner following the motion tightly, cut the play immediately since the touch pass has no time to develop against trail technique.
