Fake Jet Pass Power is a play-action pass out of Shotgun Normal Y Off that opens with jet motion across the backfield to sell the sweep before the QB fakes the handoff and drops to throw. The diagram shows a shallow crosser working underneath from the backside, a short flat route from the fullback or offset back, and a quick out breaking toward the sideline near the line of scrimmage, giving the quarterback a tight, high low read to one side of the field. This is a play-action rhythm passer built to punish linebackers and safeties who bite on the run fake, with the primary read starting on the flat route and working to the shallow crosser underneath.

Defensive Reads

Key the linebacker depth at the snap, if they crash hard on the jet motion the shallow crosser and flat route will be wide open underneath. Watch for a spy or a linebacker sitting in the shallow crosser lane, that defender can jump the route and blow up the primary read. Check the flat defender pre-snap, if it is a cornerback in man coverage the quick out beats him easily, but zone corners sinking into the flat can undercut the throw. Man coverage with no underneath help is the biggest vulnerability, while Cover 2 or Cover 3 zones with disciplined linebackers who do not bite on the fake will shut this play down. Beware of a delayed blitz off the edge timed to the play fake, since the extra second needed to sell the run action can get the quarterback hit before he resets his eyes downfield.

Usage Tips

Use the jet motion pre-snap to bait linebackers into flowing with the sweep fake, then attack the vacated underneath zone immediately after the play fake completes.

Look for aggressive run fits or overplayed run blitzes pre-snap since the jet motion often draws linebacker eyes and creates natural throwing lanes.

Hot route the flat runner to a quick out if you see man coverage on the outside numbers to create instant separation against a trailing defender.

Pair this call with Zone Fake Jet or Jet Pass Fk Zone earlier in a drive so the defense starts respecting the jet action, making the play fake here even more effective.

Best used on early downs or short yardage third downs where defenses are more likely to sell out against the run action.
