Overloaded run blitzes or extra defenders stacked in the box against this personnel grouping signal that the defense has correctly diagnosed the run look and you should check to a different play.

Usage Tips

Check the box count before the snap and only call this against 6 or fewer defenders in the box to avoid running into a stacked run fit.

Identify whether the edge defender crashes hard on the mesh point pre snap, since that dictates whether you should keep the ball on the read or hand it off immediately.

Use this as a changeup after running Inside Zone or Same Side Zone a few times, since defenders keying run flow will bite on the zone track and get gashed by the QB keep.

Pair this with RPO Zone Peek or RPO Read FL Screen in your play calling script so the defense has to respect both the give and the pass option out of similar formations.

Best called on early downs in normal down and distance situations, and avoid it in obvious passing situations since there is no pass option built into this specific call.
