Look for man coverage indicators pre-snap such as press corners or a single high safety, since the HB angle route is designed to abuse linebackers in man who cannot mirror the out-and-in break.
Use hot routes to adjust the trips side vertical routes into hitches or slants if the defense shows a soft zone shell, keeping the angle route as your primary answer underneath.
This play shines on third and short or third and medium when linebackers are more aggressive in coverage drops and susceptible to the HB angle's change of direction.
Pair HB Angle with Slot Quick Flat or Curl Flat in your play-calling sequence so the defense has to respect quick game to the flat before you hit them with the delayed angle break out of the backfield.
