Orbit RPO Zone Alert is an RPO out of Shotgun Trips TE that pairs an inside zone run scheme with an orbit motion man leaking out to the flat as a bubble or flat alert route. The QB reads the play side linebacker or force defender: if that defender crashes down on the zone action, the ball gets pulled and thrown to the orbit motion man in space, and if the linebacker stays home or bails to cover the flat, the zone run stays live behind the offensive line's blocking scheme. This is a zone beater at its core since it attacks light boxes and off-coverage linebackers who cannot be in two places at once, though it also punishes aggressive man defenders who chase the motion pre-snap.
Watch the play side linebacker depth at the snap, if he sits shallow or steps up into the line the flat throw to the orbit man is wide open Identify two high safety shells since they signal a lighter box that favors the zone run read Look for a linebacker spying the motion man across the formation pre-snap, which tips man coverage and often means the run should be the primary answer Post-snap, track any user-controlled defender flying to the flat since that lurk can bait the QB into a bad RPO throw, in that case stick with the handoff Nano blitzes or overload pressure off the edge can blow up the zone run before the mesh point, so respect the pull and take the quick flat throw against aggressive blitz packages
Use the orbit motion pre-snap to identify if the defense is in man or zone, if a defender follows the motion man across the formation you are likely facing man coverage and should lean run
Attack light boxes with six or fewer defenders in the box since the zone run has a clear numbers advantage in that alert
Hot route the backside receivers into slants or hitches to hold single high safeties and prevent extra run support rotating late
Call this on early downs like first and second and ten to keep defenses honest, then follow up with Orbit Cross Screen or Orbit TE Middle Screen from the same Trips TE set to punish defenders keying the zone action
If the defense shows a hard crash blitz off the edge, pull the RPO immediately to the flat rather than trying to force the zone run into a bad gap scheme
