PA Ctr Waggle is a play-action rollout out of Singleback Y Trips that sells inside zone action before the QB waggles out to the boundary. The trips receiver on the far side runs a deep dig that sits down in the intermediate zone while the two receivers on the play-side (attached to the run fake) stack a corner route over a shallow crosser, giving the QB a high-low combo on the rollout. This is a play-action man beater and zone beater hybrid, with the primary read starting on the corner route breaking outside, working down to the underneath crosser if the corner is capped, and coming back to the deep dig on the backside if both playside routes are covered.
Key the edge defender on the play-action side before the snap, since if he stays home and does not bite on the run fake the waggle rollout loses its blocking advantage. Watch the flat or curl-flat zone defender after the snap, because he has to choose between the corner route and the underneath crosser, and that indecision is the window you exploit. Against man coverage, look for the cornerback trailing the corner route since a well timed throw back-shoulder beats trail technique. If the defense shows two-high safeties, the deep dig against zone coverage becomes the primary answer since the corner route may be capped over the top. Beware of user-controlled defenders spying the QB on the rollout or dropping a linebacker into the flat, since a disciplined zone defense with a spy can take away both the run action and the throw lanes.
Run this on early downs (1st and 2nd and short to medium) when you have already established the run game so the play-action freeze on linebackers actually holds.
Pre-snap, look for single high safety alignment or man coverage indicators since the rollout puts stress on the flat defender and the deep half defender simultaneously.
Hot route the deep dig receiver into a shorter option like a spot or hitch versus soft zone if you need a quicker outlet against pressure.
Pair this with Inside Zone or HB Power O from the same set so the run fake threat is legitimate before you call PA Ctr Waggle as a changeup.
Roll the QB with a wide edge to buy time, but be ready to throw the crosser underneath quickly if the edge defender is unblocked and closing fast.
