Jet 6 Soar is a jet motion play-action shot concept out of Singleback Y Trips that uses the motion man to manipulate linebacker flow and eye discipline before the quarterback attacks vertically. The route combo pairs a deep soar or corner breaking route from the trips side with a vertical shot from the backside, designed to punish zone drops that widen with the motion and man coverage that loses leverage on the release. Primary read progression starts with the jet motion defender to diagnose man versus zone, then works to the soar route breaking to the corner or deep third before checking down to the underneath crosser if the shot is covered.
Key the safety alignment before the snap, two high shells with soft corners invite the soar route to sit down in the deep third, while single high shells with the free safety cheating to the trips side signal the defense is sitting on the shot play. Watch the linebacker that spies the jet motion, if he stays home and does not bite on the fake it usually means zone coverage underneath and you should look to the crosser or check down instead of forcing the vertical. Man coverage on the outside receivers with no safety help over the top is the ideal look for this play, since the corner route can beat man leverage on double moves and body positioning. User controlled defenders who sit at the second level lurking for crossers will jump underneath routes quickly, so do not force the check down if you see the user drop into a shallow lurk zone. Cover 3 with a hard flat defender squatting on the jet motion path will shrink the sideline window, forcing the quarterback to hold the ball longer and increasing sack risk against disguised blitzes.
Send the jet motion pre-snap and watch how the defense reacts, if a defender follows the motion man across the formation you are looking at man coverage and can trust the soar route to win one on one down the sideline.
Use this play on second and long or third and long situations where defenses are more likely to sit in two high safety shells, since the play-action element holds linebackers just long enough to open the vertical window.
If the safety rotates hard to the trips side pre-snap, hot route the backside vertical into a comeback or dig to attack the vacated middle of the field instead of forcing the shot throw.
Pair this play in a sequence after HB Dive or Inside Zone from the same Y Trips personnel to sell run action first, then come back to Jet 6 Soar once the defense starts crashing linebackers downhill.
Avoid calling this against heavy blitz packages unless you have hot routed a quick outlet, since the play-action fake requires extra protection time and can get the quarterback hit before the deep route develops.
