Check the safety alignment before the snap, if you see two deep safeties sitting at 10 to 12 yards this play is designed to punish that Cover 2 shell with the corner route sitting behind the flat defender

Use the out route as your immediate answer versus a blitz look since it clears out fast underneath the corner defender

If the defense shows Cover 3 with a single high safety, work the drag route across the field since the seam route will hold the deep middle defender and open up the shallow crosser

Motion the TE or adjust the drag route depth with a hot route if you are facing heavy zone drop teams that sit their linebackers at 8 to 10 yards

Pair this play with Smash Y Double or Smash Hammer in the same set to keep defenders guessing on which side the smash concept actually breaks toward

Best called on second or third and medium when defenses are more likely to sit in zone shells rather than bring pressure
