Fk Cheat HB Stretch is an outside zone run out of Shotgun Tight Y Off Wk that uses pre-snap motion to fake a cheat WR screen before the handoff. The diagram shows the offensive line flowing hard to the play side with the HB taking a lateral stretch path behind the line, reading blocks from the play side hip of the tackle out to the edge. This is a zone beater designed to attack gap discipline and outrun overpursuing linebackers, with the primary read progression working from the play side double team to the edge defender's block, and if the edge is sealed the HB should press hard outside for the cutback lane.
Watch for a heavy box count pre-snap since stacked fronts with extra defenders near the line signal a run blitz designed to beat outside zone. Key the play side linebacker's first step after the snap, if he flows hard downhill without reading the stretch action he is vulnerable to the cutback. User the play side edge defender or Sam linebacker to hold the C gap and force the HB to bounce outside into pursuit. Identify single high safety looks since they often bring an extra run defender into the box, making the cutback lane tighter but the edge more exposed. Watch the motion man's defender to see if the defense is playing zone or man, a defender who follows motion across the formation signals man coverage and a lighter box.
Use pre-snap motion to identify if the defense shifts run fits or reveals man coverage responsibilities on the motion man.
Call this on early downs like 1st and 10 or 2nd and short when defenses expect balanced play-calling.
Attack defenses stacking the box with fast flow linebackers since the stretch path exploits overpursuit for a cutback lane.
Pair this with Fk Cheat Outside Zone and Cheat Outside Zone in the same drive to keep linebackers hesitant on their run fits.
Mix in PA Fk Cheat Quick Out and PA Fk Cheat Post Cross off the same motion look to punish defenders who key run based on the fake.
