Breakdown

Corner N Go's is a two-man route concept out of Shotgun Tight Slots with the outside receivers running vertical stems while the inside slot receivers clear underneath on drag routes toward the sideline. The left receiver runs a corner route, breaking outside and up the numbers, while the right receiver runs a straight go route up the sideline, and both inside receivers run flat drags that sweep across the formation as outlet and clear-out options. This is a man beater built to stretch the field vertically while the drags occupy underneath defenders and pull man coverage horizontally to open the deep corner and go routes. The primary read progression starts with the go route on a one-on-one vertical shot, then works to the corner route for the deep sideline throw, and checks down to the drags underneath if the coverage rolls deep or the pocket collapses.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, identify single high versus two high safety shells since a lone deep safety forces you to choose one vertical route to attack while two deep safeties suggest you should target the drags underneath. Watch cornerback press versus off alignment, because press man with no safety help is the ideal look to fire the go route immediately off the snap. Post-snap, key the flow of the underneath linebackers and nickel defenders on the drag routes, since if they widen out to cover the drags it confirms man coverage and opens a passing lane for the corner route behind them. This play struggles against zone coverage with two deep safeties who can sink and rob the corner route, so look for Cover 2 or Cover 4 shells and be ready to check down to the drags rather than force a throw into the deep zones. Beware of user-controlled defenders lurking underneath the drag routes, since a smart user will sit in the shallow zone and jump the checkdown, so keep an eye on the middle of the field before committing to the safety valve.

Usage Tips

Use this play on second or third and long when you need a explosive vertical shot against man coverage. Check the cornerback alignment pre-snap: if you see press man with no safety help over the top, hot route the underneath drags into quick outs to speed up the clock and give yourself a checkdown, but if the corner is playing off man, trust the go route for a deep shot down the sideline. Motion one of the slot receivers before the snap to confirm man versus zone, since a defender following the motion man is a clear tell to attack with the go and corner routes. Pair this play with Bench or Curl Outs earlier in a series to bait cornerbacks into sitting on shorter routes, then come back to Corner N Go's to hit the double vertical shot once the defense over commits to underneath zones. Against aggressive blitz teams, use the quick drag as a hot route dump-off since the deep routes take time to develop and you need an answer if extra rushers are sent.
