Eagles PoCo out of Shotgun Tight Slots (11 personnel) is a classic post corner concept built to attack Cover 2 and other two deep safety shells. The backside receiver runs a corner route while the frontside receiver stems vertically then breaks to a deep post, creating a natural high low stretch on the safety in that half of the field. The two outside receivers run go/streak routes to hold the corners deep, clearing the underneath and intermediate zones for the post corner combo, while the HB checks releases into a flat or stays in to help protect. Primary read is the post route working against the safety first, then the corner route breaking to the boundary if the safety jumps the post.

Defensive Reads

Presnap, key both safeties: if they are aligned at equal depth outside the numbers this is a Cover 2 or Cover 4 shell that this concept is designed to exploit. Post snap, watch the safety over the post side, if he sinks and widens to help on the corner route, the post will sit in the honey hole behind the linebackers for an easy throw. If the safety stays flat footed in the middle instead of rotating, take the corner route since the post window will be tight. Watch for user controlled safeties dropping straight down the pipe, that is a Cover 3 or Cover 1 rob look that clogs the post read and forces you to the corner or checkdown. Beware of Cover 2 cloud or man match schemes where the corner sinks with the corner route, since that eliminates the outside window and puts extra pressure on the post read against zone or man.

Usage Tips

Call this on 2nd or 3rd and long when you expect a two deep safety shell like Cover 2 or Cover 4 rather than single high looks. Presnap, identify safety depth and width: if both safeties are sitting at 10 to 12 yards with outside leverage, the post has room to sit down in the window behind the linebackers. Use the streaking outside receivers as clear out routes and do not force the ball there unless the corner completely bites on the underneath routes. Pair this play in sequence with Corner N Go's or PA Shot Post from the same set so the defense has to respect both the post corner shape and the double move shot play, keeping safeties honest. Motion or shift presnap to check for man coverage rotation, since the corner route becomes a strong man beater if you get a favorable matchup on the outside.
