WR Stick N Out is a quick-game passer out of Shotgun Tight Slots 11 personnel that blends the Stick concept with an out route on the backside for a true half-field beater. The stick side runs the classic stick triangle (flat, stick, corner or vertical option) to attack zone defenders with conflicting reads, while the out route to the opposite side gives you a fast, high-percentage answer versus man coverage. Primary progression starts with the flat/stick combo to identify the underneath defender's leverage, then works to the out route if the corner is playing off or if the linebacker jumps the stick.
Defensive Reads
Key the underneath linebacker or nickel defender on the stick side presnap, if he is sitting shallow expecting to jump the stick route, take the flat route instead for a free access throw Watch the flat defender's depth at the snap, if he widens too far to take away the flat, the stick route sits right behind him in the soft spot of the zone On the out route side, read the cornerback's alignment, tight press man with no safety over the top means the out gets picked off if you are late, so throw with anticipation Look for user-controlled defenders lurking in the shallow zone since this concept lives in that area, if you see a user spying the stick or flat, reset to the out route on a rhythm throw Cover 3 and Cover 4 shells with aggressive underneath zone drops are the toughest matchups for this play, while Cover 2 man and single high man coverages get exposed by the combination of stick options and the out breaking route
Usage Tips
Presnap, identify whether the defense is showing a two high shell or single high look, since this concept punishes zone drops on the stick side and beats hard man coverage on the out route
If the corner over the out route is playing tight man with no safety help over the top, hot route that receiver to a quick out or speed out for an easy completion before the defensive back can flip his hips
Use this on second and short to third and medium situations where a quick underneath answer keeps the chains moving without exposing your quarterback to pressure
