Defensive Reads

Usage Tips

Use this on early downs like first or second and short to mid distance when the defense expects run based on personnel and formation tendencies.

Check the safety alignment pre-snap, if you see two high safeties sitting deep the play fake will still hold the linebackers just long enough to hit the crossing seam route underneath them.

Against man coverage, prioritize the crossing red route since it creates natural separation off the break, especially versus MLB or SS matchups.

Pair this with HB Mid Draw or Inside Zone earlier in a drive to sell the run fake and get linebackers flowing downhill before calling PA Seam.

Motion or hot route the outside receivers into deeper stems if you see single high safety looks, since the go routes can pull that free safety out of the throwing lane for the seam.
