Breakdown

Orbit Whip Flood is a flood concept run out of Shotgun Tight Open with 11 personnel that uses orbit motion out of the backfield to help identify the coverage shell before the snap. To the flood side, the outside receiver runs a deep corner route while the slot receiver whips underneath on a flat route, stacking three levels vertically to overload one half of the field. The backside features a dig route from the inline receiver and a quick out from the flanker, giving you a full-field flood look that is a classic Cover 3 beater designed to stress the flat defender and deep third corner simultaneously.

Defensive Reads

Key the flat defender to the flood side before the snap, if he widens with the whip route it opens a throwing lane for the corner route behind him Watch the deep third corner's depth off the line, soft corners invite the underneath whip throw while corners playing tight leave the deep corner route open This play struggles against Cover 4 or Cover 2 Man where there are two defenders capable of splitting the flood, so check the safety alignment pre-snap for two-high shells Track any user-controlled lurk defender sitting in the flat zone, a spy or robber technique defender can undercut the whip route and jump the throw If the defense shows blitz with the linebacker walking up over the slot, expect man coverage behind it and trust the whip route to separate quickly against man leverage

Usage Tips

Send the orbit motion man across the formation pre-snap to bait the defense into showing man or zone, if a defender runs with the motion you know its man coverage and the whip route should win quickly underneath

Your primary read is the deep corner route to the flood side, if the deep third corner bites on the underneath whip route, throw the corner route immediately for an explosive gain

Use this play on early downs like first or second and medium when defenses are more likely to sit in Cover 3 shells rather than bring exotic pressure

Pair this with Orbit Z Spot or Orbit Mesh Rail from the same set so the orbit motion look stays consistent, keeping linebackers guessing on whether it is another flood concept or a shorter spot concept

Against aggressive user defenders who jump the flat, hot route the whip route to a quick out or hitch to convert on third and short
