The inline receivers run a mesh style combo underneath, with one runner sitting on a shallow drag back across the field and another climbing to a corner route breaking outside, while the backside receiver runs a vertical clear out to occupy the deep defender. This is a man beater built around the post clearing the middle of the field, with the shallow crossers serving as the checkdown against zone drops. Primary read progression starts with the post, works down to the shallow drag if the safety rotates over the top, then bails to the corner or checkdown flat route.

Defensive Reads

Watch the middle linebacker at the snap, if he sinks into a deep zone drop or bails to the post landmark, the window closes and you should redirect to the drag or corner route. Key the free safety pre snap, a single high safety who bites hard on the vertical clear out route leaves the post one on one for an explosive gain. Man coverage with no safety help over the top is the ideal shell for this concept, the post will separate against most linebackers and slower corners in man. Cover 2 and Cover 4 shells with disciplined zone drops are the toughest matchup, the corner sitting deep and the safety rotating over will squeeze the post throwing window. Usage Tips

Pre snap, identify whether the safety is shaded to the post side, if he sits at depth over the top the post will not have room to work so check the drag underneath instead.

Use motion or a hard count to see if the defense shifts from a two high shell to single high, single high alignments open up the post against man coverage.

Hot route the shallow drag into a quick out if you are seeing a hard flat zone defender sitting on that route, this keeps the concept alive against Cover 2 and Cover 4 zone drops.

Pair this play with Verticals HB Burst or Tight Seams in your play calling sequence to condition the defense into expecting vertical shots, then come back to Slot Post to attack the post seam once safeties start cheating deep.

Best used on second and medium or third and long when you need a chunk gain, the deep post window is tightest and most rewarding against blitz heavy man coverage looks.
