Defensive Reads

Identify single high safety alignment before the snap, since this play is designed to attack that exact shell with the post corner route. Watch for corners playing off coverage or shading inside, which signals they are vulnerable to the corner route breaking outside toward the sideline. Key on user controlled defenders dropping into the deep third or lurking underneath, since a rover sitting on the drive routes will bait the quarterback into a mistake. Cover 2 and Cover 4 shells struggle to get width to the corner route in time, but a hard flat blitz or nano pressure package can disrupt the timing before the post corner route develops. If the defense rotates to two deep safeties post-snap, abandon the post corner read immediately and check down to the drive route working across the middle.

Usage Tips
