Breakdown

Mtn Z Spot PoCo lines up out of Shotgun Tight Open with 11 personnel and shows a pre-snap motion piece crossing the formation before the snap. At the snap, both outside receivers push vertical stems up the numbers, working into deep comeback breaks toward the sideline to stretch the field horizontally against zone drops. The middle X runner breaks off the line and cuts inside on a quick angle route, while the inside receiver near the formation runs a post corner route, releasing vertically and breaking back outside near the boundary to attack the seam between the cornerback and safety. This is a versatile man and zone beater built to attack Cover 2 and Cover 3 shells, with the post corner as the primary read and the two outside comebacks serving as the secondary progression if the safety jumps the post corner route.

Defensive Reads

Read the safety alignment before the snap, since two deep safeties signal Cover 2 or Cover 4 and a single high safety signals Cover 1 or Cover 3 Key the cornerback over the post corner route post snap, since a corner sitting flat footed or biting on the initial vertical stem is vulnerable to the corner break Watch for user controlled lurk defenders sitting in the middle of the field, since a smart user can jump the underside of the post corner and force the quarterback to the outside comebacks This play struggles against aggressive press man with safety help over the top, since the post corner window shrinks and the outside comebacks get contested at the catch point Look for late blitz disguises from the linebacker level, since a delayed blitz can collapse the pocket before the post corner route fully develops its break

Usage Tips

Use the pre-snap motion to identify man versus zone before the snap, since a defender following the motion man confirms man coverage and opens up the post corner against a trailing corner

Attack Cover 2 by targeting the post corner route in the window behind the cornerback and in front of the safety before the safety can rotate over the top

Against Cover 3, work the outside comeback routes since the flat defender and deep third corner often leave a soft spot on the sideline once the corner routes clear out the deep zone

This play works best on second and medium to third and medium since the route combo needs a few extra beats to develop the deep breaks

Pair this play with Mtn X Spot or Mtn Curls Out N Up from the same set to keep the defense guessing between spot concepts and vertical shot plays off similar formation and motion looks
