Hitch N Go is a double move concept built out of Shotgun Tight Open 11 personnel that punishes aggressive man corners jumping the underneath route. The outside receiver sells a hitch to bait the defender before breaking vertical on the go, while underneath routes from the slot and TE occupy linebackers and safeties to open up the double move against man coverage. This is a man beater first and foremost, and the primary read progression starts with the hitch and go receiver: if the corner bites on the hitch, throw the go route immediately, otherwise work the checkdown route underneath as your secondary read.
Press man coverage with no safety help over the top is the ideal shell to attack since the corner has no help if he jumps the hitch Cover 3 or Cover 1 with a deep half safety shaded to that side can shut this down if the safety reads the double move and rotates over in time Watch for user controlled defenders sitting at the sticks trying to bait a throw on the hitch portion of the route, since a smart user will stay off the corner and wait for the break Zone coverage shells like Cover 2 or Cover 4 with soft corners generally take away the explosive play since the corner is not biting on the initial hitch Blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge are dangerous here because the double move needs an extra beat to develop, so identify pressure looks pre-snap and be ready to hot route the running back into a check release
Look for man coverage indicators pre-snap such as corners lined up tight with inside or outside leverage and no visible flat defender help over the top
Use the hot route menu to adjust the underneath route into a quick out or flat if you see a linebacker sitting in the throwing lane
This play hits best on second and long or third and medium situations where defenses are more willing to press man coverage to force a quick throw
Pair this call with Stick or Mesh Spot earlier in a series to condition the defense into expecting quick game, then hit them with the double move when they jump the route
Double clutch the throw slightly on the hitch and go to let the double move fully separate before releasing the ball, but do not hold it so long that a spy or blitzer closes the pocket
