Mtn Flood H-Choice is a three level flood concept to the left with a choice route breaking off the backside. The outside receiver runs a deep go route to clear space, the slot man runs a corner route sitting underneath at the intermediate level, and the inside receiver releases outside then breaks flat, creating a vertical stretch on one side of the field. On the right side the tight end or slot works a choice route that reads the defender and settles or breaks based on leverage, while the running back releases to the flat as a checkdown or option outlet. This is a Cover 3 beater built to stress a single deep third defender with three levels stacked on top of each other, and the primary read progression starts with the flat route to see if the cornerback jumps it, then climbs to the corner route sitting in the void, and finally to the choice route or checkdown if the deep coverage rotates hard to the flood side.
Defensive Reads
Presnap, check for a single high safety, since that confirms Cover 3 and tells you the flood side corner route will have room to work in the deep third void. Watch the flat defender at the snap, if the cornerback sinks with the go route instead of jumping the flat, the checkdown to the flat man is open immediately. Read the underneath zone defender responsible for the curl to flat area, if he widens with the flat route the corner route sitting behind him becomes the window. Key the choice route defender post snap, aggressive man coverage or press technique means the choice route should break away from contact quickly. Against Cover 4 or two deep safety shells, the deep go route loses its clearing effect, so shift your read to the choice route and flat combo on the backside instead of forcing the flood.
Usage Tips
Call this on early downs or second and medium when you expect a Cover 3 shell because the flood concept is purpose built to overload one deflender on the strong side.
Presnap, identify the deep safety alignment and cornerback depth on the flood side, if you see two deep safeties consider hot routing the corner route into a deeper post to attack the seam instead of forcing it into a two high shell.
Use the choice route as your emergency valve against man coverage looks, since it reads leverage and can convert into a quick separation route versus a press corner.
Sequence this with Mtn X Spot or Mtn Curls Out N Up earlier in a series so the defense sees similar route stems and formation motion, then hit them with the flood concept once they start jumping underneath routes.
Against aggressive user blitzes, throw the flat route immediately off the snap since it is the fastest developing route and punishes defenders selling out on the deep shots.
