RNS Switch Streak lines up in a 10 personnel Pistol Spread look with two receivers stacked to the left, executing a switch release where the outside receiver angles inside at the snap while the inside receiver crosses underneath him up the seam on a vertical streak, creating natural traffic against man coverage. On the right side, both receivers run vertical routes, with the outside receiver breaking into a streak up the numbers and the slot receiver working an inside vertical seam to occupy the safety. This is a man beater built around the switch release to spring a receiver free deep, and the primary read progression starts with the switch release streak to the left, then works to the right side vertical seam, and finally to the outside streak if the deep safety commits to either seam route.

Defensive Reads

Watch the corner alignment on the left side pre-snap, tight press alignment signals man coverage that the switch release is designed to defeat with natural rub traffic. Key the free safety depth and leverage at the snap, if he shades toward the switch release side, the right side vertical seam should be open for a big play. Track the middle linebacker or nickel defender's drop on the right seam route, a shallow zone drop or delayed read there means the seam will sit down in a throwing window against zone coverage. Beware of a two deep safety shell rotating late into a Cover 3 or Cover 1 look, since a single high safety with underneath help can rob the switch release streak if the user flies to the route. If the defense shows blitz with a nickel or slot corner crashing off the edge, expect one on one matchups on the outside streak, which favors this play if your receiver wins vertically before the blitz arrives.

Usage Tips

Call this out of empty or near empty Pistol Spread when you have already established quick game or run action to loosen the coverage shell.

Pre-snap, identify if the defense is showing man coverage with corners in press or trail technique, since the switch release on the left is designed specifically to create a natural pick against man defenders.

If you see two high safeties (Cover 2 or Cover 4 shell), key on the right side seam route since it can split the safeties if the linebacker fails to get enough depth on his drop.

Use hot routes to convert the right side inside receiver into a deep out or comeback if the safety is sitting on the seam, giving you a built in answer versus zone coverage without changing personnel.

Pair this play with RNS Streak, RNS Hitches, or Slants Y Out earlier in a series so defenders start jumping shorter routes, then hit them with Switch Streak once they bite on quicker concepts.
