Y Corner out of Spread Pistol 10 personnel shows a four man route concept designed to attack man and zone coverage on the right side while a receiver on the left runs a deep flag route in isolation. To the right, the flanker runs a corner route from outside, the slot runs a quick out and up that sits underneath, and the back runs a shallow drag from the backfield that works to the flat. The primary read progression starts with the outside corner route against single high or man coverage, works down to the underneath out breaking route if the corner is capped, and checks down to the running back drag as the safety valve.

Defensive Reads

Pre-snap check safety depth and alignment, a single high safety with corners playing tight man is a green light for the outside corner route Watch the flat and hook zone defenders after the snap since a sitting linebacker or nickel defender in the underneath zone signals Cover 3 or Cover 4 and you should progress to the out route instead of forcing the corner Key the backside cornerback on the flag route, if he bails deep at the snap in a two high shell that route becomes a low percentage option and you should stay on the right side concept User controlled defenders sitting in the deep quarter or third to the corner route side is the biggest threat, if you see a user lurking deep do not force that throw and work the shallow drag or out route Cover 2 with two deep safeties splitting the field is the toughest shell against this concept since it takes away both the corner route and the flag route, look to exploit the flat and out routes underneath instead

Usage Tips

Pre-snap identify if the defense is showing single high or two high safety alignment since the corner route to the right is your top priority against single high man coverage

If the defense shows two high shell, look to the flag route on the left side since it can work as an iso deep shot against a rolled coverage that leaves one on one on the backside

Hot route the slot receiver into a deeper option route if you see zone drops sitting underneath the corner route to give yourself a stretch read on the sideline

Use the running back drag as your check down against the blitz since it clears low and gives you a quick outlet if the corner and out routes are covered

Pair this play with Y Stick or Quick Slants in your play calling sequence to condition the defense to sit on shorter throws before hitting the deep corner shot
