HB Dive Alert Bubble is a run-first play out of I Form Slot that gives the offense a built-in answer versus overloaded fronts. The diagram shows the HB taking a direct dive path through the middle of the line behind the FB and OL, with the alert bubble route showing the slot receiver bending underneath from the outside on a bubble screen path toward the boundary. The primary read is presnap: identify box count and defensive alignment first, run the dive into the interior gaps if the count favors the run, and audible or alert into the bubble screen if the defense overloads the box or brings extra defenders to the run side.
Watch the box count before the snap, a light box of five or six defenders favors the offense running the dive downhill. If the slot cornerback or nickel is sitting off the line in soft coverage or a zone shell, expect the QB to alert into the bubble screen for an easy completion. Blitzing linebackers who crash hard inside to stop the dive open up the bubble screen on the perimeter, so outside defenders must stay disciplined. Man coverage on the bubble receiver with an aggressive underneath defender can jump the route and blow up the alert before it develops. Stacked fronts with extra defenders in the box are the best counter to the dive portion, forcing the offense into the bubble as the built-in answer.
Check the defender count in the box before the snap, if there are six or more defenders stacked inside, alert to the bubble screen instead of handing the ball off.
Use this play on early downs like first and second and short yardage to keep the defense honest between run and quick throw without changing personnel.
Pair this with HB Blast, HB Power O, and FB Dive Strong from the same set so defenses cannot key on the dive action alone.
If the slot corner or nickel defender is playing tight man coverage on the bubble receiver, stick with the interior run since the bubble throw will be covered immediately.
Mix in Jet Sweep and HB Toss afterward to stretch the defense horizontally once they start cheating linebackers inside to stop the dive.
