From the trips side, the two outside receivers run straight seams up the numbers while the inside slot receiver angles into a deep post to split the safeties, and the backside single receiver runs a matching go route up the sideline. The HB stays in to help pass protect against the four man rush shown in the diagram, making this a clear dropback passing concept and premier Cover 2 and Cover 3 beater. The primary read starts with the post from the slot working the middle void, then works outside to the seams based on safety rotation.

Defensive Reads

Pre snap, identify if the safeties are showing two high or rotated to one high since this dictates the entire route priority. Watch linebacker depth at the snap, shallow linebackers signal zone drops that will get run through by the vertical routes. Post snap, key the slot corner and free safety leverage on the deep post, if they crash down immediately look outside to the seam. Beware of Cover 4 or quarters shells with press corners since this concept struggles when all four defenders get vertical carry with no natural void. Man beaters excel here only if the underneath defenders bite on the trips alignment presnap motion or if a blitz is called, so check for nano blitz packages that leave one on one matchups deep.

Usage Tips

Check pre snap for two deep safeties or a single high safety before the snap to determine which vertical route will be open.

Against Cover 2, target the deep post from the slot receiver since it splits the safeties and attacks the middle void between the corners and safeties.

Against Cover 3, work the seams outside the middle linebacker since the single high safety cannot cover both hash marks.

Use hot routes to convert one seam into a shallow crosser if you diagnose man coverage with no help underneath, giving you a quick option against blitz looks.

Pair this play with Bounce Y Stick or Stick from the same set on early downs to sell a short passing concept, then hit Four Verticals on second or third and long once the defense starts jumping underneath routes.
