Wing Stack is Shotgun's compressed 12 personnel look, aligning a stacked receiver pair to one side with a wing tight end tucked just off the tackle and the second tight end attached inline. Unlike spread sets in Shotgun that stretch defenders sideline to sideline, Wing Stack condenses the formation into a tight box, which forces the defense to declare its leverage early and makes press man alignment awkward against the stack. The wing position also gives you a legitimate extra blocker at the point of attack, so Inside Zone, Inside Zone Split, and Power O all hit with an extra body on the edge rather than a receiver trying to crack a linebacker.
Read the alignment over the stack before the snap: if the outside defender is pressed with inside leverage, take the Fade Out or Double Corner shot, and if he is bailing, hit Stick or Ohio Spacing underneath.
On second and medium, run Inside Zone or Inside Zone Split first to establish the box count, then come back with PA Read or PA Slide from the same look to freeze the linebackers.
Hot route the wing tight end to a flat or drag against man coverage to give yourself a quick outlet, since blitz pressure hits fast in condensed sets.
Use Mesh Spot and Levels on third down against man coverage, and motion the stacked inside receiver to widen the defense and confirm man or zone before you commit to the read.
Save Jailbreak Screen and PA Jailbreak Screen for situations where your opponent has been bringing extra rushers, and check the flat defender pre snap to make sure nobody is sitting on the throw.
