Doubles Offset is the RPO and gadget hub of Shotgun, pairing 11 personnel (1 RB, 1 TE) with a 2x2 receiver picture and the halfback offset to one side of the quarterback rather than dotted directly behind him. That offset back is the entire point of the set: it declares your run strength pre-snap, gives you a free release into the flat or wheel without the delay of a full crossover step, and lets the quarterback keep his eyes on the boundary read while the mesh point happens off his hip. Compared to standard Shotgun Doubles or Doubles Wk, the offset alignment shortens the read-option and zone-read timing and makes plays like Read Option, Zone Fake Jet, and RPO Zone Alert Bus fire noticeably faster.
Read the apex defender pre-snap on every RPO: if he widens to the slot, hand it off, if he crashes into the box, throw the alert route or the smoke immediately after the snap.
Flip the set with the formation flip audible so the offset back is away from the pressure side, then run Inside Zone or Counter Trey back into the light box.
Against single high, live on X Dagger, Texas Double Post and PA Go Dig Post, and hot route the opposite slot to a corner route or drag depending on whether the safety is shading the field or the boundary.
On third and medium, Smash Pivot and Angle Smash cover both coverage families, the pivot beats man and the smash beats the Cover 2 flat defender, so you rarely need to guess right pre-snap.
Set up the screens: run Outside Zone and Buck Sweep early, then come back to HB Slip Screen or Mtn HB Slip Screen once the second level starts flowing hard, and block the back on your dropback concepts if the user keeps dialing edge pressure.
