Inside Zone from Shotgun Doubles Offset is a straightforward zone run play with the HB aligned offset in the backfield behind the QB. The diagram shows the offensive line flowing in a zone blocking scheme with the HB taking a downhill path through the designated running lane, while the four receivers stay uninvolved as decoys to hold defenders in coverage. Primary read is the frontside gap combo blocks, working from the playside A-gap to the backside cutback lane based on how the defensive line and linebackers flow.
Defensive Reads
Key the middle linebacker depth presnap, if he is stacked tight behind the nose it signals a run blitz look that can gash Inside Zone if not filled quickly. Watch for a crashing defensive end or 3-technique shooting the gap, that is a nano blitz indicator and the cutback lane behind it becomes the answer. User-controlled defenders flying downhill too early open cutback lanes, patience at the mesh point punishes overpursuit. Against a stacked box with eight in the tackle box, this run gets contained and should be countered with the RPO tags in this set. Look for the play side linebacker's initial step, if he steps toward the sideline the interior cutback lane stays open longer.
Usage Tips
Check the box count before the snap and only run this into light boxes with six or fewer defenders in the tackle box. Use the left or right trigger to pick your gap based on linebacker flow, patience through the mesh point wins reps against overaggressive defenders. Pair this with RPO Zone Alert Bus or RPO Zone X Smoke out of the same formation so defenses cannot key run versus pass presnap. Attack defenses that show two deep safeties or soft zone shells since linebackers have more ground to cover in run support. Mix in Outside Zone from this same set to keep linebacker flow guessing and open up cutback lanes on Inside Zone.
