Angle Smash out of Shotgun Doubles Offset gets its name from the two-man side concept on the boundary: the outside receiver runs a corner route while the inside slot man releases into an angle route out of the backfield look, creating a natural high-low smash combo that stretches the cornerback and any underneath defender vertically and horizontally. On the backside, the far outside receiver runs a deep comeback while his inside partner works a quick out breaking away, giving the quarterback a full-field read with built-in leverage on both edges. This is a zone beater designed to attack Cover 2 and Cover 3 by putting the corner in a bind between the angle route flattening underneath and the corner route stacking on top, with the primary read starting on the smash side angle-to-corner combo before working backside if the coverage rotates away.
Defensive Reads

Usage Tips
Check pre-snap for two deep safeties before the snap, since this play is built to punish Cover 2 shells where the corner has to choose between the angle route sitting underneath and the corner route stacking behind him
On third and medium, key the flat defender first: if he widens with the angle route, throw the corner route behind him for a chunk gain
Use the backside comeback and out combo as a built-in answer versus Cover 3 rotation, since the deep comeback sits in the void left by a rotating free safety
Pair this play with Double Slants or Slant Flat earlier in a series to condition the defense to sit on quick underneath throws, then hit the corner route for explosive plays once linebackers start jumping short routes
Hot route the backside out to a quick hitch versus press man coverage if you need a faster underneath answer against blitz-heavy fronts
