Orbit Fork Whip is a motion-based pass concept out of Shotgun Bunch Spread Nasty that uses pre-snap orbit motion to shift the bunch look and create natural rub action against man coverage. The Whip route out of the bunch is the primary read, sitting down against zone or snapping outside against trailing man defenders, while the fork concept from the remaining bunch receivers occupies underneath zone defenders and creates traffic for the whip breaking route. This is a man beater first and foremost, with the orbit motion helping identify man versus zone before the snap, and the progression starts with the whip route before working to the second level crossers if the whip is taken away.
Pre-snap, check safety depth and cornerback alignment on the bunch side since press man alignment signals the whip route will need a hot route adjustment to beat the jam. Post-snap, key the motion defender crossing the formation to confirm man coverage, if he trails tightly the whip should win immediately off the break. Look for user-controlled defenders sitting in the shallow flat or hook zone, since a smart user lurk can jump the whip route and bait a turnover. Against zone shells, identify if the cornerback is playing off with outside leverage, which opens the fork routes underneath before the safety can rotate over. Watch linebacker depth at the snap, shallow linebackers can undercut the whip route on shorter throws so be ready to check down or scramble if the underneath window closes.
Watch the motion defender during the orbit shift to instantly diagnose man coverage if a defender follows across the formation.
Use this play on early downs or third and short since the whip route breaks quickly and gives you a high percentage completion versus man.
If the defense shows a hard flat zone shell, hot route the whip into a deeper option route to sit in the void behind underneath defenders.
Pair this with Orbit Smash Whip and Orbit Bunch Salem in your play-calling sequence so the defense cannot key on the orbit motion tendency.
Attack blitz-heavy defenses by getting the ball out quick to the whip route since the fork concept keeps extra blockers in to protect against nano blitzes off the edge.
