Defensive Reads

Sell the play fake by holding the ball high and letting the running back cross the formation before pulling into your drop, since the run fake is what opens the post against man coverage.

Check the safety alignment before the snap, if you see a single high safety cheating toward the bunch side, take the post shot immediately off the play fake because the defense cannot get width to help.

Against two high shells, work the dig route on rhythm since the post will be capped by the deep half safety, and the dig sits in the void created by the play action freeze.

Use hot routes to convert the flat route into a quick out if you diagnose a cover 2 shell pre-snap, this gives you a faster answer against zone drops without changing your drop back timing.
