Cheat Slot Cross is a bunch-spread crosser concept built to attack man and zone coverage with horizontal stretch and traffic. Off the bunch alignment, the yellow route runs a deep crossing route from the backside all the way across the field, the red route runs an over route working underneath it from the opposite side, and the cyan route breaks outside then works back underneath as a shallow drag while the third bunch receiver runs a quick pivot into the flat. The layered crossers create natural rub traffic against man coverage while stacking horizontal layers against zone drops, and the primary read progression starts with the deep yellow crosser, works down to the red over route in the intermediate window, then checks down to the cyan drag or flat option if both are covered.
Check the middle of the field pre-snap, if it is a single high safety the deep crosser has a clean throwing lane against most man coverage. Watch the linebackers depth at the snap, shallow drops signal zone and you should key on the red over route settling into the intermediate seam. Identify any user-controlled defender sitting in the shallow zone or spying the crosser, that lurk threat is the biggest counter to this concept and forces you to climb the ladder to the deeper route. Cover 3 with a hard-flowing linebacker to the crosser side is the toughest shell to beat here, while Cover 2 man tends to open up rub picks for an explosive gain. Watch for blitz packages that bring extra rushers off the edge, the quick-developing shallow drag and flat route become the built-in answers when the protection breaks down early.
Look for single-high safety shells pre-snap since the deep crosser has room to work if the defense rolls to help elsewhere.
Motion the bunch receiver before the snap to diagnose man versus zone, if defenders shift with the motion man you know to lean on the rub routes.
Hot route the flat runner into a quick out if you see a corner sitting hard on the shallow drag, this gives you an instant answer versus underneath zone drops.
Use this on second and medium to third and short since the layered crossers create easy answers before the pocket collapses on longer developing routes.
Pair this with Mtn Slot Cross or Orbit Shallow Cross in the same set so the defense has to respect crossers from multiple bunch looks, then counter with Shock HB Wheel or HB Slip Screen when they start jumping the underneath routes.
