Breakdown

Mtn HB Corner runs out of a bunch alignment with pre-snap motion sending a receiver across before the snap, creating natural rub potential for the man beaters coming out of the stack. Post-snap, the two outside receivers push vertical breaking routes, one runs a deep corner route up top while the other bends into a deep out breaking route, and the HB releases up the seam into a corner route of his own from the backfield to attack the flat to deep third area. The lone WX receiver runs an over route crossing the field underneath the traffic. This is a man beater built off natural picks from the bunch set, with the primary read progression starting at the HB corner route in the flat, then working to the deep corner route on the boundary side, and finally to the underneath crosser if the defense drops zone underneath.

Defensive Reads

Check the safety alignment pre-snap, a two high shell with safeties rotating late suggests Cover 4 or Cover 2 which can squeeze the deep corner routes if the corner defenders sink quickly. Watch the flat defender assigned to the bunch side, in man coverage the natural rub from the stack often causes a pick that springs the HB corner route wide open in the flat. Identify the deep third or deep half defender on the boundary, if he is playing wide alignment expect him to jump the deep corner route, which means you should hold the ball and let the crosser develop. Look for a linebacker spy or blitzer showing pre-snap pressure, since the bunch alignment can create natural chip opportunities but a well timed blitz can collapse the pocket before the corner routes finish breaking. Cover 1 with a robber underneath is the biggest threat to this concept, the robber can sit on the crossing route and undercut the HB corner route, so be ready to climb the pocket and check to a hot route if you see this look.

Usage Tips

Use the pre-snap motion to identify man versus zone before the snap, if the defender follows the motion man across the formation you are getting man coverage and the natural rub from the bunch becomes lethal.

Target the HB corner route on quick timing against Cover 3 or Cover 1 since the flat defender often has to choose between the crosser and the HB, creating an easy pitch and catch throw.

Save this play for third and medium to third and long situations since the deep corner routes need time to develop and the crosser gives you an outlet if the corner routes are covered.

Pair this play with Mtn Slot Hitch or Mtn Slot Under earlier in a series to condition the defense to sit on quick underneath throws, then hit them with the corner routes off the same bunch look.

Motion the HB pre-snap into an empty look if you want to remove the run threat entirely and force the defense to declare coverage early, giving you a cleaner post-snap read.
