Breakdown

Titans Flood Switch is a flood concept out of Shotgun Trey Y-Flex that stacks three routes to one side to overload a single zone or defender. To the flood side, the outside receiver runs a deep clear-out route to the sideline, the middle receiver breaks to the flat, and a third route sits underneath, creating a high low low read on the numbers. On the backside, the lone receiver runs a deep in breaking crossing route that can act as a hot read against man pressure or a middle of the field void beater. This is a classic Cover 3 beater that stresses the flat defender and deep third corner by flooding three levels into the same third of the field, with the primary progression working from the deep sideline route down to the flat.

Defensive Reads

Pre snap, check for a single high safety since that usually signals Cover 3 or Cover 1, both of which struggle to defend three level floods to one side. Watch the flat defender post snap, if he sinks with the deep route instead of staying on the flat, that opens up the underneath route for an easy pitch and catch. Key the deep third corner on the flood side, if he bites on the shorter routes the clear out route behind him will be wide open for a big play. Against Cover 2 or Cover 4 shells this play loses some effectiveness since the extra deep defender can help bracket the flood side, so be ready to check to the backside crosser. Watch for user controlled defenders sitting in the flood side passing lanes or spying underneath, since that lurk threat can jump the middle route if you stare it down too long.

Usage Tips

Identify the coverage shell before the snap by checking if the safety is showing single high, since this play is built to punish Cover 3 rotation. If you see man coverage with the corner shaded outside, hot route the backside crosser into a quicker in cut to beat the leverage. Use this on second and medium to second and long when defenses are more likely to sit in zone shells and cannot afford to bring extra pressure. Work the flood side high to low, starting with the deep clear-out to see if it pulls the deep third corner, then progress to the flat route if the corner sinks. Pair this play with Titans Cross Flood or Flood Swap in the same set so the defense sees similar route stems out of the same formation, then counter with Empty Flood Switch if they start jumping the flood side early.
