PA Deep Over runs a play-action fake out of Trey Y-Flex Shotgun to hold the linebackers before attacking the middle of the field. The backside receiver runs a deep over route across the field as the primary read, the tight end releases vertically up the seam, the inline slot works an out and comeback combo underneath, and the outside receiver on the trips side runs a shallow drag back across the formation to clear space. This is a play-action man and zone beater that isolates the deep over against linebackers who bite on the run fake, with the drag serving as a checkdown against pressure. Primary progression is deep over first, seam tight end second, out route third, with the drag as the outlet against the blitz.

Defensive Reads

Check the safety alignment before the snap, since a single high safety means the deep over will have a defender waiting in the middle of the field. Watch linebacker depth at the snap, if they step up hard on the play-action fake the deep over will have a clean lane behind them. Beware of user controlled defenders lurking in the middle third, since a spy or rat linebacker can jump the deep over route and turn it into a pick six. Cover 3 with a sinking middle linebacker can take away the deep over, so look to the seam route from the tight end as the counter read. Usage Tips

Sell the run fake by pausing on the play-action animation before climbing the pocket, since linebackers that trigger downhill open up the deep over instantly.

Use this on early downs like first or second and medium to long when the defense is expecting run, since the trips formation and Y-Flex alignment disguise the play-action well.

If you see two deep safeties pre-snap, key the middle of the field opening for the deep over and be ready to fire it before the safety can rotate over.

Hot route the drag into a deeper crossing route against zone heavy defenses to stress the intermediate window if the deep over is capped.

Pair this with HB Draw or Inside Zone from the same set to keep defenses honest against the run action, then come back to PA Deep Over once linebackers start sitting on the boundary routes.
