Titans Cross Flood is a Cover 3 beater flood concept out of Shotgun Trey Y-Flex with 11 personnel. The diagram shows a three level flood to the trips side: the outside receiver runs a deep vertical clear route, the slot receiver runs a deep crosser that breaks across the field, and the flexed TE releases into the flat off a shallow angle route while the backside single receiver runs a comeback route to the sideline at a shallow depth. The blocking is a standard 5 man protection with the running back checking release into the flat route on the boundary side, giving the quarterback a clean pocket to work the flood side. The primary read progression is the deep crosser first, then the flat route from the TE underneath it, and finally the backside comeback as a checkdown against zone drops.

Defensive Reads

Presnap check the strength of the safety rotation since a single high safety shell tells you the crosser will have room to work against Cover 3 zone drops Identify the curl to flat defender to the trips side because his drop dictates whether the crosser or the TE flat route comes open first Watch for a user controlled linebacker sitting in the middle hook zone since he can jump the crosser route and blow up the primary read Against man coverage look for a linebacker matched on the TE since the flat route should win quickly on the angle break Respect disguised Cover 1 or Cover 0 blitz looks since the running back checking into the flat becomes your emergency valve if the crosser gets clogged

Usage Tips

Attack Cover 3 shells presnap since the deep crosser sits down right in the middle void that curl to flat defenders leave open

Use this on second and long or third and medium when you need a horizontal stretch against zone drops

If you see man coverage presnap, hot route the flexed TE to a quicker option route to give yourself a faster answer against a linebacker in coverage

Pair this call with Titans Flood Switch or Empty Flood Switch later in a series so the defense cannot key on the crosser bursting from the same side every time

Against a Cover 4 shell, key the flat defender first since if he sinks with the crosser the TE flat route is wide open for an easy pitch and catch
