Defensive Reads

Watch for user controlled defenders lurking in the deep third to the flood side, since a smart user rover can jump the corner route and undercut the whole concept. If the defense shows two deep safeties before the snap, expect the corner route to be capped, so be ready to work the underneath flat route instead. Fast disguised blitzes off the edge to the flood side can beat the play action fake, so account for edge pressure with the fullback or TE staying in to chip before releasing.

Usage Tips

Look at the corner and safety alignment before the snap to confirm single high or split safety shells since this concept is designed to punish Cover 3 rotation to the flood side.

Take the play action fake through and let the corner route develop before checking down, since rushing the throw negates the flood advantage this play is built around.

If the flat defender jumps the underneath TE route, hit the corner route on time before the safety can rotate over the top.

Use this play on early downs like first or second and medium when defenses are more likely to sit in zone shells expecting run out of 12 personnel.
