PA Boot Corner Post is a play-action bootleg concept out of Singleback Deuce Close 12 personnel that pulls the QB away from the play side fake to hit deep breaking routes on the backside. The diagram shows the outside receiver running a corner route to the boundary while the slot man cuts across the field on a deep post, with a shallow drag underneath from the backfield and a flat check release route to hold the underneath defenders. The line and TE fake the run action before the QB rolls out, and the primary read progression is post to corner to the underneath drag, working from deepest to shortest as the QB drifts on the boot.
Defensive Reads
Read the safety rotation before the snap, if you see two deep safeties roll to one side post snap that usually signals man or Cover 3 rotation which opens the post route behind it. Watch the flow of the linebackers on the play fake, aggressive linebacker crash on run action leaves the underneath drag and flat wide open for an easy completion. Identify any user controlled defender lurking in the middle of the field since a spying linebacker or safety sitting on the post can jump the throw if the QB stares it down too long. Cover 4 or quarters shells with disciplined corners can squeeze both the corner and post routes, so be ready to check down to the drag route if the deep windows are tight. Watch for a corner blitz or edge pressure off the boot side since the offensive line is committed to selling run action and the QB can get flushed if the protection is beaten quickly.
Usage Tips
Use pre-snap motion or a quick glance at the safeties to confirm whether you are getting single high or two high before the snap since this play is designed to attack single high shells with the post route.
Sell the run fake by holding the ball on the boot action for a beat, this freezes linebackers and opens the throwing lanes for both the post and corner.
Hot route the drag underneath into a spot route or have it settle in the flat if you are facing a heavy underneath zone team, this gives you a checkdown when the deep shots are covered.

Best called on second and medium to second and long or first down shots downfield when you want to test a defense playing off coverage or bailing into zone off the run look.
