Defensive Reads

Pre-snap, identify where the strong safety or extra hybrid defender is aligned since a defender crashing down hard to the motion side signals the defense is keying the jet sweep look. Watch linebacker depth and shoulder angle at the snap, if they flow hard with the motion man before the ball is snapped you have a numbers advantage on the edge. Post-snap, key the playside defensive end and outside linebacker leverage, if they stay square and maintain contain the sweep will get strung out with no room to bounce. Look for a user-controlled defender flying downhill from a run fit assignment, this is the most common way defenses blow up jet sweep for a loss. Usage Tips

Hot route the frontside tight end to a quick chip or seal block if the defense is stacking the edge with an extra defender, and check the play at the line if you see a heavy overload to the sweep side.

Best used on early downs or in short yardage and goal line situations where defenses often sell out to stop inside runs and leave the edge underprotected.
