PA Jet Sweep out of Singleback Bunch TE shows jet motion across the formation to sell the sweep fake before the quarterback pulls it back to throw. Off the play fake, the outside receiver from the bunch runs a deep corner route to the sideline, the middle bunch receiver breaks on a deep dig back across the field, and the inside receiver clears vertically up the seam, while the backside receiver runs a shallow crosser underneath into the flat. The tight end or blocking back sets up a checkdown flat route on the play side, and the offensive line slides to protect the play-action pocket. This is a play-action shot play built to punish run blitzes and aggressive linebacker flow with a deep man beating dig and corner combo, and the first read is the deep dig coming across the middle before working out to the corner route or checking down to the flat.
Check safety alignment before the snap, a single high safety cheating toward the box confirms they are respecting the jet sweep and opens up the dig and corner combo behind them. Watch linebacker depth and flow, if they crash hard to the sweep side after the fake, the middle of the field opens up for the dig route to work for a big gain. User the deep safety or nearest linebacker in coverage to jump the dig route since that is the primary target most offenses attack first out of this look. Against man coverage look for the trailing defender on the deep dig, a blown assignment or late break there leads to explosive plays, so squeeze the throwing window by shading the defender toward the route stem. Recognize two high safety shells presnap since that coverage takes away the deep corner and dig combo and forces the quarterback into the low value flat checkdown, making this play far less effective against split safety looks.
Use this on early downs like first or second and short to mid distance when defenses are keying run action off your jet sweep tape from earlier drives.
Watch the linebacker depth pre-snap, if they are stacked tight to the line expecting run, this play will gash them with the dig route sitting in the vacated middle of the field.
Hot route the shallow crosser into a deeper drag if you see zone defenders sinking hard on the underneath flat route, this gives you a second high value option against zone shells.
Pair this with straight Jet Sweep and Zone Fake Jet earlier in a series so the defense commits to run fits, then hit them with this shot play once linebackers start cheating up on the fake.
Take the deep dig immediately if you see man coverage with no safety help over the top, the route is designed to win against trailing linebackers and slower defensive backs in man.
