Mtn HB Zone Wk is a weak side inside zone run out of Singleback Bunch TE, sending the offensive line's zone blocking flow away from the bunch alignment while the HB reads his blocks from backside to frontside. The bunch formation to the strong side pulls extra defenders out of the box or forces a numbers mismatch on the weak side, giving this zone run a favorable path if the defense over commits to the bunch look. The primary read progression for the HB is to key the play side guard and tackle double team, then bounce or cut based on the first unblocked defender flowing from the weak side linebacker or safety.
Pre snap, identify if the weak side linebacker is stacked tight to the line or sitting back in a two high shell, a tight alignment signals a quick fill that this play can still beat with a strong double team Look for the safety rotation toward the bunch side, if both safeties cheat toward the strong side formation the weak side alley is open for a big cutback Post snap, key the user controlled defender flowing hard down the line, if the user overruns the play side gap the backside cutback lane becomes the primary answer This run struggles against a stacked front with an extra defender crashing the weak side C gap or a blitz package sending the weak side linebacker unblocked before the zone can seal Watch for defenses that flow hard to bunch motion or shifts, a disciplined defense that stays home on the weak side and reads the mesh point will limit this play to minimal gains
Check the box count before the snap and only run this play if the defense has six or fewer defenders in the box after accounting for the bunch alignment pulling a safety or corner out wide
Use the right stick or hold sprint late to let the zone blocking develop, do not rush the cut because inside zone in Madden rewards patience on the first step
Pair this with Mtn Inside Zone and Inside Zone Split to keep defenses guessing on which gap the zone flow is actually attacking
Attack second and short or third and short situations where defenses are more likely to sell out for pass coverage on obvious pass downs elsewhere in the set like PA Boot or Stick
If the defense keys weak side run tendencies, set up this play by first running Mtn PA Boot Over or Mtn PA Deep Over to sell the same backfield action before flipping back to the zone run
