Breakdown

Mtn Fk Swing is a play-action motion pass out of Singleback Bunch TE that puts a fake jet motion man across the backfield before releasing into a swing route to the flat, giving the quarterback an easy checkdown while the bunch receivers work a mountain concept up top. Out of the bunch, one receiver clears vertically up the sideline, another runs a deep dig sitting behind the linebackers, and the third clears out underneath to the opposite sideline, stretching the field horizontally and vertically. This is a play-action man beater at its core, since the vertical and dig combo stresses man defenders working through traffic while the swing gives you a built-in answer against blitzes. The primary read progression starts with the swing route off the fake motion for an immediate answer versus pressure, then works to the deep dig sitting down in the middle zone, and finally to the go route up the sideline if the corner bites on the play fake.

Defensive Reads

Watch for linebackers stepping up on the fake jet motion, since that is your cue the swing route will be wide open in the flat. Key the safety depth pre-snap. If both safeties sit at depth, the dig route will have to work through a tighter window, so be patient with your throw. Identify man coverage on the receiver running the sideline go route. Corners playing tight man with no safety help over the top are the biggest liability against this concept. Look for a lurking linebacker or nickel defender sitting in the shallow crossing lanes, since they can jump the swing route if they diagnose the play fake quickly. Against zone coverage, especially Cover 3 or Cover 4, find the soft spot behind the underneath zone defenders and in front of the deep defenders for the dig route to settle.

Usage Tips

Use the fake jet motion pre-snap to bait linebackers into flowing with the motion man, which opens up the swing route as an instant answer versus blitzes.

Check the safety alignment before the snap. Two high safeties suggest man or zone underneath, so target the dig route sitting behind the linebacker level once it clears the shallow crossers.

If you see man coverage on the outside receiver running the go route, take the shot early since the play fake can freeze a linebacker spying the flat.

Combine this play with Mtn Inside Zone or Mtn HB Zone Wk to sell the same backfield action, then hit them with Mtn Fk Swing once they start keying run.

Best used on early downs or third and short since the swing route is a safe checkdown, but the dig and go routes give you explosive play potential if the defense bites on the play fake.
