Mtn Inside Zone is a base zone run out of Singleback Bunch TE that uses the bunch alignment to create natural leverage and extra bodies at the point of attack. The offensive line steps in unison to seal the front, with the running back reading the double team at the point of attack before pressing the hole and reacting to the first color he sees flow downhill. This is a run play, not a pass concept, and its blocking scheme is designed to beat both base fronts and light boxes rather than any specific man or zone coverage shell.

Defensive Reads

Usage Tips

Check the box count before the snap and only run this into 6 or fewer defenders in the box for the best odds of a positive gain

Use the bunch formation to bait linebackers into cheating toward the trips side, then let the backside cutback lane develop naturally

Manually control the running back through the mesh point so you can press the hole late and let the zone blocking develop instead of hitting it too fast

Pair this with Mtn PA Deep Over or Mtn PA Boot Over on early downs so the defense has to respect the same formation as both run and pass action

Best called on first and second down between the 20s where you want a controlled gain without exposing the QB to unnecessary risk
