PA Jet Deep Out is a play-action pass out of Singleback Bunch TE that starts with jet motion across the formation to freeze linebackers and sell the run fake before the quarterback pulls and sets up in the pocket. Off the play fake, the bunch releases into a three-level attack: one receiver breaks outside on a deep out at the sticks, a second climbs vertically up the seam before bending away, and a third works underneath on a short crossing route into the flat, while the backside receiver runs a deep comeback back to the sideline. Play with two safeties deep and instruct corners to sit on any out breaking route rather than turning their hips to run vertically, which takes away the primary read before it develops. Use a user-controlled defender to lurk the shallow crossing route since that flat threat is the checkdown once the deep out and seam are covered. Watch for the tight end or slot receiver climbing the seam before breaking outward, this route stresses cover 3 rotations if the flat defender jumps the jet motion too early. Bring a delayed blitz off the edge to disrupt the pocket during the play fake, since the quarterback needs a full beat to climb and find the deep out or comeback.
Usage Tips
Call this on early downs in run-heavy personnel counts so the jet motion and play-action fake actually hold linebackers and force the defense to respect the run.
Presnap, look for two-high shells with off-corners since the deep out has room to sit down in front of a soft corner without a robber underneath.
If you see a single-high safety or man coverage indicators like tight corner alignment on the bunch, hot route the seam runner into a quick option or slide protection to buy time for the deeper comeback to develop.
Pair this call with Jet Sweep or PA Jet Sweep earlier in a series so the defense keys the jet action as a run threat, making the deep out and comeback hit wide open on this play action shot.
Use in second and medium or third and medium situations where the sticks route matches the out breaking point, and avoid calling it into heavy zone blitz packages that bring extra defenders into the shallow flat.
