HB Pump Draw is a run play out of Singleback Bunch TE that shows the QB pumping the ball to sell pass before handing off to the HB on a delayed draw up the middle. The offensive line pass sets initially to bait the pass rush upfield before climbing to second level blockers, while the bunch receivers release vertically to hold corners and safeties in coverage. This is a pure run play built to punish aggressive pass rush lanes and overzealous linebacker blitzes, with the primary read being the natural running lane created behind the pass-set blocking as the HB reads the mike linebacker and picks his gap.
Defensive Reads
Key the mike linebacker pre-snap, if he is creeping toward the line expecting blitz this draw will gash him once he commits upfield. Watch for defensive line stunts or twists, since a well timed draw can slip right through the vacated gap left by looping rushers. User controlled defenders sitting in a spy or lurk technique are the biggest counter to this play, since they stay home and read the pump fake instead of biting. Check safety depth before the snap, if both safeties are playing deep in a two high shell there are fewer bodies near the box to rally to the draw quickly. Zone coverage with linebackers dropping hard into passing lanes will slow the draw down because those same linebackers can redirect downhill once they see the handoff.

Call this play when the defense shows heavy blitz packages or aggressive pass rush tendencies, since the pump fake and pass set blocking exploit defenders shooting gaps too fast.
Use it on early downs like first or second and medium to keep defenses honest after showing pass heavy formations from Bunch TE.
Watch pre-snap for stacked box counts or overloaded fronts, then bounce the HB read to the weak side if the play side gets clogged.
Pair this with Cross Drag or Stick from the same set so the defense has to respect quick pass concepts before you dial up the draw, keeping linebackers frozen.
Sequence it after PA Boot or PA Jet Deep Out to condition the defense to bite on play action, making the delayed draw hit even harder against aggressive second level pursuit.
