RPO Alert Bubble is a run pass option out of Shotgun Trips with 10 personnel that gives the quarterback a pre snap and post snap alert between an inside hand off and a bubble screen. The offensive line and running back set up the run action while the outer trips receiver runs a vertical release, the middle trips receiver stays in as a blocker, and the inside slot receiver bubbles out to the flat for the screen throw. The primary read progression is run first, bubble second: the quarterback reads the alert defender (usually the flat or slot corner) and either hands off the run or pulls and throws the bubble if that defender crashes down.

Defensive Reads

Usage Tips

Use pre snap motion or a quick glance at the slot corner and nickel defender to identify if they are sitting on the bubble or flowing hard to the run

This play punishes defenses that key on the run fast, especially against blitz heavy fronts and aggressive nano blitz packages that leave the perimeter uncovered

Call this on early downs in run heavy sequences so the defense respects the hand off, then mix in RPO Base Alert Bubble or RPO Alert Screen from the same set to keep the alert defender guessing

If the defense shows soft zone coverage with the corner sitting deep, take the automatic bubble read since the flat is uncontested

Pair this with Bubble Screen and HB Swing later in a series once the defense adjusts a linebacker to the bubble side, since that opens up the interior run lane again
