RNS Georgia is a Trips Shotgun quick game concept built to attack the flat and intermediate zones in a hurry. The backside X runs a vertical Go route to hold the deep half, while the trips side stacks a Slant Flat combo with the outside receiver working a quick out and the two inside slot receivers running a slant and flat underneath. The Y receiver in the bunch adds a shallow out that crosses back toward the formation, giving the quarterback a layered read from the flat up through the slant. Primary progression starts with the flat and slant combo on the trips side before working back to the Go route on a blown coverage or busted deep assignment.
Defensive Reads
Watch the flat defender pre-snap, if he sits at the line expecting run or screen he will be late reacting to the flat route and give up an easy completion. Key the slot cornerback or nickel defender's depth, if he is playing off coverage the slant will sit down right in his zone for an easy user pick opportunity. Identify two high safety shells before the snap, since a Cover 2 or Cover 4 shell leaves the deep Go route on an island against a single corner with help over the top. Post-snap, track the middle linebacker's drop, if he sinks into the shallow out from the Y receiver he can undercut that route and bait a throw. Man coverage with underneath help from a robber or lurking linebacker is the best counter, since it clogs the slant and flat rub and forces the quarterback into the covered Go route.
Usage Tips
Use this on third and short to medium since the flat and out routes provide instant separation against soft cushions.
Check pre-snap for two high safeties, this concept eats up zone coverage because the slant and flat create a natural rub that clears the underneath defenders.
If you see man coverage across the trips side, hot route the slant into a quick slant angle to beat off man leverage before the corner can jump the route.
Pair this with 60 Go or Four Verticals in your play calling sequence to condition the defense to respect the deep shot, then come back to RNS Georgia to hit the underneath stuff when safeties bail deep.
Against blitz-heavy defenses, get the ball out on the flat route immediately since it is the fastest developing route in the concept and neutralizes pressure off the edge.
