RNS Georgia out of Shotgun Trips lines up two receivers isolated to one side and three receivers bunched to the other. The backside single receiver runs a Go route to clear vertical space and take the top off the coverage, while the backside slot works a slant flat combo with the outside receiver, giving you an instant underneath option against soft coverage. On the trips side the inside receiver runs an in breaking route toward the ball while the middle receiver releases outside on a short out, creating a natural pick or picket look at the second level. The primary read starts with the slant flat combo on the backside, then progresses to the trips side crosser if the flat defender squats.

Defensive Reads

Man coverage on the backside single receiver is the biggest tell, if you see press man alignment with no safety help over the top, take the Go route immediately off the snap. Watch the flat defender at the snap, if he sinks with the slant route the flat is wide open for an easy completion and yards after catch. Against zone coverage, identify whether the underneath defenders widen with the out route on the trips side, since that opens a passing window for the inside crosser. User controlled defenders sitting in a shallow zone lurk can jump the crossing route, so be ready to check down to the flat if you see the user flash toward the middle of the field. Cover 3 with a hard rolled corner to the trips side can take away both the out and the crosser, forcing you to rely on the backside slant flat as your outlet.

Usage Tips

Check the safety alignment pre-snap, if you see a single high safety the Go route on the backside has one on one leverage down the field for a big shot play. Use the flat route as your immediate answer versus zone blitz looks since it gets the ball out before pressure arrives. If the defense shows Cover 2 or Cover 4 with soft corners, hot route the slot receiver into a quick slant to attack the void underneath the deep zones. This play pairs well with Bubble Screen and RPO Alert Bubble in your play calling sequence since the trips alignment forces linebackers to widen, opening up the Go route on later downs. Use RNS Georgia on early downs to set up explosive shots, then come back with Stick or FL Dig from the same formation to keep the defense guessing on personnel tendencies.
