60 Slide is a Shotgun Trips 10 personnel pass play built around a slide route from the inside trips receiver, who breaks outside and up the seam after releasing flat off the line. The two outside trips receivers run vertical seam or go routes up the numbers as clear out routes, while the backside single receiver runs a vertical stem shown by the red route that occupies the deep defender on that side. This is a zone beater concept that uses the slide route to settle into soft spots created by the two vertical seams, and the primary read progression starts with the slide route working outside to inside before working backside to the vertical stem if the underneath defender squats.
Defensive Reads
Key the underneath zone defender aligned over the trips slot receiver since his depth and reaction to the slide route tells you whether the window is open or closed Watch for Cover 3 sink defenders since the two vertical seams from the outside trips receivers will pull them deep and vacate the intermediate zone the slide route wants to occupy Man coverage with an aggressive underneath defender jumping the flat release can shut this play down quickly, so look for press alignment on the slot receiver pre snap as a warning sign Identify blitz packages or nano blitzes coming from the trips side since the quick flat release action can be mistaken for a screen and baited into an overaggressive jump, giving the vertical seam a soft coverage matchup Backside single receiver route against a deep half safety shell indicates the defense is playing two high, which usually means the middle of the field is more open for the slide route to settle into
Usage Tips
Look for the pre snap alignment of the underneath defender over the slot trips receiver since the slide route lives or dies based on whether that defender sinks or stays flat footed
Use this play against zone shells like Cover 3 or Cover 4 since the two vertical seams from the trips side occupy deep defenders and open the slide route in the intermediate area
Hot route the backside single receiver into a quick out or slant if the defense shows man coverage on that side to give yourself a faster option than the vertical stem
Pair 60 Slide with 60 Go or Four Verticals in the same set to keep the defense honest on vertical shells before dialing this slide concept back to attack the soft zone underneath
Best called on second and medium or third and short to medium distances where the underneath defender has to respect both the run fake and the flat area before the receiver slides up the seam
